Back in June, the BBFC refused the UK distribution of the notorious videogame, Manhunt 2, unless substantial changes were made to remove the apparent 'bleakness and callousness of tone' within the game. Despite some changes being made, the BBFC has now rejected the revised version of Manhunt 2, so it's now confirmed that the game will never see the light of day in UK stores.

David Cooke, Director of the BBFC said: “We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version. The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the 'execution kills', but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature.

"We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor."

Jack Thompson will be over the moon.

I don't even want this game but.. it's rather pathetic this whole banning business isn't it? Can't I just order it on 'net from anywhere in Europe anyway?
I think it's for the best, the BBFC have been very tolerant of some video games so far and for them to ban manhunt 2 says to me that it really pushes some boundaries a bit too far.

Maybe it's time for Rockstar to make something a bit different. They excelled with table tennis so they are an innovative bunch, yet they continue to line up games designed to push the limit.
If i'm over 18 i can watch a gorey horror film but not play manhunt 2? Censorship for the young (and impressionable) is one thing but someone decided for me (as an adult) that I can't play this game. I don't want to but..
He's got a point…
Not really. If you're over 18 you can play a gorey video game too.

Some films go beyond that and fail to get 18 classification, so why should it be different for computer games?
