Alternate reality
War Front: Turning Point is an RTS that bases the gameplay on the ‘what if’ factor of both Germany and the US developing highly sophisticated battlefield weapons, from shield generators and tanks through to exoskeletons and vertical take-off aircraft. So what you’ll see on the screen is technologically advanced, essentially taking today’s modern ideas and using 1940’s technical know-how to build it. This gives the games a unique style and feeling; very similar to the quasi-technology we’ve seen in the Thief games… though this is an RTS, obviously…
The story sees the US forces teaming up with the German resistance to overthrow the current regime which then brings the interest of the Russians as each side turns on the other in a battle for freedom and power… still with me?
As you’d expect from any modern RTS game, the units under your command vary depending on which side you’re playing. But War Front: Turning Point has taken a leaf from the more successful RTS games such as Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War and has given each side a particular set of strengths and weaknesses. US units tend to be more hi-tech affairs featuring shield generators and VTOL aircraft. The Russians favour the all out fire power of heavily armed tanks while the Germans tend to go for more individual infantry weapons such as jetpacks and exoskeletons. Alongside these you’ll still have all the more traditional and historically correct units such as the P-51 Mustang and Sherman tank, the JU-87 Stuka and Panther tanks or Soviet Yak-9 and T-34 tank, not to mention the general infantry units too.
