RTS fun
This being an RTS game, there just had to be resource collection of one type or another and for War Front: Turning Point it’s coal mines and oilfields. It’s not much a case of taking over a mining or drilling point as sending harvester units out to these points, letting them fill up and then trundling back to base. The same units are used to do all the building work for your base too which then allows you to start building the offensive units to get the job done.
The actual game interface is very much like every other RTS game and why not? If it’s successful for one game then I’m all for a similar style being used in other games. So the build menus are easy to access and are but a mouse click away and build orders can be queued up so you can go off and get on with something else. As you get deeper into War Front: Turning Point you’ll be able to expand your tech tree to get to the uber-powerful units, which will come in handy for the later missions.
Sadly, you can’t play the Russian side in the single player campaign mode and this is most probably because the storyline concerns itself with the US/UK/German alliance. You can play through as the US/UK or German sides, but as the storyline eventually merges into one the missions are very similar later on. That said, you can take on the role of the Russian forces in multiplayer skirmish mode and it has to be said that the units here offer another facet to War Front: Turning Point, though it would’ve been nice to be able to crack on with the Russian kit in a single player campaign too.
