Sound quality, rating and HEXUS.right2reply

Get past all the cabling, tune your audio to the required levels, and you're in for a treat. Sound, as always, is subject to the interpretation of the listener's ear, but we've found the Sharkoon X-Tatic Digital v3 headset to be a stellar performer.

Despite the close proximity of eight speakers, the X-Tatic Digital headset manages to create a convincing surround sound experience whilst gaming, with the origin of audio easily identifiable. First-person-shooters, in particular, sound magnificent with bullets zipping across in all directions, enveloping the gamer in a virtual world full of detail.

For online gamers, multiplayer speech comes across as clear and well defined, and the detachable microphone picks up voice with good clarity.

The headset's built-in subwoofers, albeit just 40mm in size, deliver decent lows and add a reasonable amount of punch to the overall effect. We did, however, find ourselves having to adjust the volume of independent channels at regular intervals - certain games require more of a thud from the woofers, whilst movies and music are better suited to a balanced sound. As a result, we'd like to have seen the headset offer audio presets, allowing the user to store two or three pre-defined configurations.

Nonetheless, our minor qualms address user friendliness as opposed to performance. As far as gaming headsets are concerned, the Sharkoon X-Tatic Digital v3 is among the best we've heard.

Looking for a Christmas gift for a devout gamer? The Sharkoon X-Tatic Digital v3 headset is a certain contendor.

Bought a pair of these myself 2 weeks ago….I have a mixed bag of reactions on them…

I hate the connection box and the need for a power cable (and a shaver adapter to convert it to UK mains but that probably because mines a grey import :P )….I also find that after a while they seem to weight a ton! It takes a while to creep up on you but they definately feel heavier the longer you wear them and the ear peices can make your ears feel unconfortable after a few hours.

Sound quality is nice though as is the microphone quality.

TBH, I think I would have stayed with my Sennheisers had I given these a trial run beforehand….the plus points are not good enough to negate the minus points….and thats before you take the price into account.
