Summary and conclusion

So, let’s just quickly sum up the Timber Wolf.

It looks good, doesn’t take up much more space than a standard keyboard, has a load of shortcut keys and a fully functioning gamepad on the side. For that though you lose the number pad on the right and for some inexplicable reason the whole thing is filled with cavity wall insulation.

Sure, this method of key action worked perfectly well on the Warrior (the stand alone gamepad from WolfKing) and the reason was that you used it as a gamepad and for nothing else. But honestly, faced with typing on the Timber Wolf I think I’d rather re-program my Saitek X52 and use that instead. I can get used to the laptop layout of the main keyboard, hell, I use laptops on my travels enough already… but I can’t see why I’d put myself through this just for the extra of a gamepad.

And that’s the kicker. With the Warrior out there, it makes the Timber Wolf kind of redundant… you can now go get yourself a keyboard you like to type with and then enjoy all the benefits the Warrior brings just by plugging it in when you need it. The Warrior has the added bonus of freeing up loads of desktop space when you’re playing, so you can knock that mouse sensitivity down and use one of those big-ass gaming mats if you so please… something you can’t do with the full sized Timber Wolf.

So, had the Warrior not been around I might’ve suggested the Timber Wolf but only after telling you to test the key action in a shop somewhere… But seeing as the Warrior is here, I really can’t recommend the Timber Wolf… not unless you want to buy it a present from someone you don’t like.

Pros
It’s got a Warrior style gaming pad built in
Not much bigger than a normal keyboard

Cons
Awful key action for a full sized board
Laptop key arrangement might not suit all
No number pad
The WolfKing Warrior is better

A classic case of being usurped by the younger sibling
