How many times we can print the word ‘time’ in one review?

Crikey…It was actually back at E3 in 2005 when HEXUS.gaming first tested out Saber Interactive futuristic first person shooter, Timeshift. It’s been a long, long wait for us to see and play the final version, and a lot has changed with the game since Atari sold the publishing rights to VU Games.

The developers, Saber Interactive, were held back and restricted by Atari’s much publicised financial difficulties, but once VU took over and ploughed some money into the game’s development, they’ve been able to rejuvenate the project and after numerous delays they’re finally ready to show us what they’ve got.

We’ve been looking forward to getting our hands on the final version of TimeShift and seeing whether the extra time invested has been worthwhile, and whether the concept of time manipulation has been achieved with success and integrated smoothly into the first person shooter genre. There’s no turning back the clock now…it’s time for TimeShift to be judged…

TimeShift follows the story of Michael Swift, an ex-military man who has stepped out of retirement to take part in a dangerous time travel research project. He travels back to the year 1911 to plant an experimental probe, but when he arrives back in the present day, the world that he had known has dramatically changed and is now ruled by the game’s antagonist, Krone and his army. Krone had also managed to go back into the past to create this new alternate Orwellian reality and its now up to Swift to stop him
