PGA Tour Season mode

In season mode you create your golfer, start with a stat cap of 10%, with all of your skills set to zero, and as you make your way up the ranks, hoping to become the FedEx Cup Champion, you play tons of courses before you even get close to finishing in the top three. This is because the early stages of Tiger Woods are extremely difficult.

The accuracy of your drives, chips and putts means that you'll initially find it tough competing against these pros as you whack the ball into the rough for umpteenth time. As you progress however your list of golfing attributes improves and the more skilful you become. So, by the time you've completed ten or so 18-hole rounds you'll be hitting the green in two shots and generally having a much easier time of it.

Where the PGA Season does't really work for me is the fact that no matter how badly you play in the initial rounds, you'll still power up your attributes and as you do you'll see your game getting better and better even though you're playing the same way that you've always been playing. So, the challenge of becoming the champion isn't really a challenge, its inevitable that you'll win the trophy. It's only a matter of time.

During PGA Tour Season the temptation was there throughout to jack it all in and head straight online for some real competition or to test out some of the traditional game modes or Tiger Challenges, which admittedly are infinitely more entertaining than the PGA Tour Season.

Before we continue I've now become acutely aware that I said earlier in the review that I wasn't going to be as critical as Nick was in his review, but I have been. Oh well…let's not dwell on that...
