Superman Returns lacks substance...
Graphically, Superman Returns is mediocre. The cel-shaded characters represent the comic book hero and villains well and the cut-scenes are impressive for the most part, but the game doesn’t push the Xbox 360 capabilities; you just need to take a look at some of the high-end graphics on the PS2 to see that this free-roaming game could have looked a hell of a lot better. The audio is excellent with an epic score that rises in tempo during fight scenes and slows down to a dreamy pace when flying over the city.
Superman Returns could have been so much better and even with the freedom to explore the vast city, the decent flying controls and some entertaining visual effects created by the hero’s super powers, fighting is far too dull, the missions and objectives are repetitive, the below par graphics are lazy and the main story part of the game is far too short. There are a number of side objectives that will extend your time in the Metropolis, but the reward of unlocking extra superman costumes or trophies just isn’t enough. We’d suggest you rent it out for the weekend or wait for it to hit the bargain bins rather than shelling out on a game that fails to deliver a decent game playing experience.
Pros
Flying mechanics are good
Being able to use superhero powers
City life on the streets is well created.
Cons
Repetitive objectives
Fighting is dull and combat involves button bashing
See-through solid objects
Superman Returns is a half-hearted effort. Fans of the superhero will find some parts entertaining, but there's not enough substance to warrant shelling out on it this Christmas.
