Microsoft has started a 'Back to School' promotion in the UK. As part of its sales offerings all but the lowest end Surface Pro 3 hybrid PCs have been subjected to significant price cuts. The sale goes beyond its own brand hardware, there are also discounts also available on devices from the low end, starting from £179.99 all the way up to laptop convertibles costing over £1000. Even though this is a 'Back to School' promo, you don't need to be a student to take advantage of the computer hardware price cuts detailed below.

If you are interested in the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 you can now buy one in the UK at the following prices:

  • Intel Core i7 / 512GB / 8GB RAM, (was £1549) now £1399 (£150 off)
  • Intel Core i7 / 256GB / 8GB RAM, (was £1299) now £1179 (£120 off)
  • Intel Core i5 / 256GB / 8GB RAM, (was £1079) now £979 (£100 off)
  • Intel Core i5 / 128GB / 4GB RAM, (was £849) now £769 (£80 off)
  • Intel Core i3 / 64GB / 4GB RAM, £639 - no change

While over in the USA Microsoft Surface tablets are now shipping with Windows 10 pre-installed, in the UK the above machines come with Windows 8.1 installed with a note that they are "Eligible for FREE Windows 10 upgrade when available." Lower down the page it says "Windows 10 is Here. Get the upgrade for free* - it's easy".

Elsewhere in the Microsoft Store there are plenty of other computer hardware offers. It is offering £130 off the Acer Aspire Switch 11, slicing the price from £329 to £199. The similar ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF is also on offer with £50 off bringing it to £349. The Toshiba Radius 11, powered by a Pentium N3540 is £40 off bringing it to £309 and at the other end of the market the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro with Intel Core M-5Y71 is £15 off, bringing it to £1149.

Microsoft has a number of Lumia phones bundled with charging plates and headphones on offer too. Finally, if you are actually a student, you can also take advantage of a 4-year subscription offer to Office 365 University, for £60.

In October we hope to see the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 arrive packing Skylake processors.

And its a good way to shift inventory before a potential Surface Pro 4 launch… That will be on my Xmas list funds permitting :-)
Does a 10% discount, however welcome, really warrant a news article? We're not talking about massive savings here, this is the sort of discount you should routinely be bartering for…

and it's only £150 off on the most expensive model!
Reminds me of Jesuits “give us a child at the age of 5, and he's ours for life”.
I saved around £400 on my Surface Pro 3, i5 - 8gb/256gb by buying from a company that imported it's stock from the States, and that was in February.
