Mini Mi
Narrower margins will be the least of Microsoft's problems if Linux mounts a comeback in the netbook market, and it looks like the rest of the technology world thinks netbooks are a great opportunity to challenge Microsoft's OS dominance.
In the past week HP and Intel have both announced new Linux distributions designed specifically with netbooks in mind.
The HP Mini 1000 has been around since last October, but HP only announced the Linux version at the end of last month and is calling it the HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition.
Mi stands for Mobile Internet. Here's what HP says it does:
HP's new Mobile Internet (Mi) software offers the online content and applications you want with just one click. Using the intuitive desktop, you can access email, internet, pictures, video, and music faster and more easily than ever.
• Dashboard-style interface lets you personalize your Mini by adding favorite websites
• Applications automatically launch when you power on - and web pages stay live and dynamically update while connected
• Integrated HP MediaStyle provides quick access to photos, music & entertainment
The HP Mini 100 Mi Edition costs $379.99 in the states. HP is also offering an XP version for $399.99.
