CORPORATE OFFICER
AUSTIN, TX-May 15, 2002-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced
the promotion of Dirk Meyer to senior vice president and corporate officer. In
his new role, Meyer will continue to lead AMD's Computation Products Group (CPG)
as it prepares to introduce AMD's highly anticipated eighth-generation family of
processors, the first member of which is planned to be shipped later this year.
Meyer, 40, joined AMD in 1996 as director of engineering
for AMD's seventh-generation microprocessor development program in Austin,
Texas, where he led the team that designed and developed the award-winning AMD
Athlon(tm) processor. When he was promoted to vice president of engineering for
CPG in 1999, his responsibilities expanded to include both microprocessors and
chipsets. Since January of 2001, Meyer has served as group vice president and
general manager of CPG. He will continue to report directly to AMD President and
Chief Executive Officer Hector de J. Ruiz.
"Dirk has been a valuable asset to AMD and has played a
critical leadership role in the development of the history-making AMD Athlon(tm)
processor and the upcoming AMD Opteron(tm) processor for servers and
workstations," said Ruiz. "I am confident he will continue to be a driving force
in future technological advances at AMD."
"I look forward to this new opportunity and am proud to
lead the charge as AMD continues to put the customer first and set the standard
with our eighth-generation processor family," said Meyer.
Before joining AMD, Meyer spent 10 years with Digital
Equipment Corporation, where he was co-architect of the Alpha(tm) 21064 and
Alpha 21264 microprocessors. He has also worked at Intel Corporation in its
microprocessor design group.
Meyer received a bachelor's degree in computer
engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in business
administration from Boston University. He will continue to be based in Austin,
Texas.
