PRESS RELEASE

PALO ALTO, Calif. and ANAHEIM, Calif. - September 13, 2011 - Intel Developer Forum - Targus® Inc., maker of the world's top-selling laptop computer cases and accessories and DisplayLink®, innovator of USB virtual graphics technology, today announced a technology partnership that will bring to market some of the world's first SuperSpeed USB-based wired and wireless connectivity and display peripherals.

With this partnership, Targus announced its plan to leverage the highly-integrated feature set provided by the DL-3900 chip and software platform.

"More HD monitors, faster video performance, multi-channel audio and Ethernet connectivity are only a sampling of the great features the DisplayLink 3900 provides," said Carolyn Perrier, vice president of product management, accessories at Targus. "Adding these robust technologies to our popular line-up of USB 2.0 and now USB 3.0 virtual graphics peripherals will only increase their productivity and entertainment value."

"Additionally," continued, Ms. Perrier, "given DisplayLink's ability to provide video and graphics over secure USB data, consumers and businesses alike are assured that high performance images are delivered with speed and reliability."

The DisplayLink DL-3900, essentially a "dock on a chip", uses USB 3.0 and DisplayLink's adaptive compression to deliver SuperSpeed video-to multiple HD displays-at speeds up to 10x that of USB 2.0.

"Targus is a major global player with an outstanding track record of leveraging DisplayLink technology," said Dennis Crespo, DisplayLink executive vice president of marketing and business development. "Targus and DisplayLink make an ideal team for packaging the versatility and performance of USB 3.0 in new products that businesses and consumers need today."

Features of the new DisplayLink chip platform for USB 3.0 include:

  • Single IC support for up to two full HD displays
  • High performance HD video and beyond HD graphics
  • HDCP 2.0 for protected content playback
  • Integrated multi-channel audio
  • Networking for docking stations and zero clients
  • Support for leading display standards - DisplayPort, VGA DAC, DVI, HDMI
  • Backwards compatibility with DisplayLink USB 2.0 graphics devices
  • USB bus power capabilities for both USB 2.0 and 3.0
  • Proven Windows driver support (XP, Vista, Windows 7, MultiPoint Server 2010, and Server 2003/2008)

DisplayLink USB 3.0 virtual graphics technology makes an ideal complement to today's powerful Sandy Bridge media processing platforms, and can be seen in action at this week's Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Calif.
