One of the first reviews of a laptop featuring the Intel Core i7-1065G7 with Iris Plus Graphics G7 has been published. NotebookCheck got its hands on the latest Lenovo Yoga C940 which comes packing this 10nm Ice Lake CPU with Gen11 graphics. The site has quickly put together a short comparison review pitting the latest Gen11 iGPU against Lenovo machines running with various other mobile GPUs like the AMD RX Vega 10, the Nvidia GeForce MX 250, as well as a smattering of other laptop and iGPU choices.
To start let us ponder the specs of the Intel Core i7-1065G7. This is a 15W 4C/8T processor with a base/boost frequency of 1.3 / 3.9GHz, with 8MB Intel smart cache, and support for up to 64GB dual-channel RAM. It employs Intel Iris Plus Graphics packing 64 EUs, with base/boost frequency of 300MHz / 1.10GHz. So how does this compare to competitor laptop graphics options (as well as the 32 EU Ice Lake GPU)?
Above you can see the NotebookCheck selection of laptops running 3DMark Fire Strike at 1080p. There are two versions of the GeForce MX 250 in these charts, with the slower 10W part straggling as expected. Intel's 64 EU Ice Lake GPU does really well, beating the RX Vega 10 by nearly 20 per cent.
In BioShock Infinite (DX11, Ultra) you can see Nvidia's dedicated GPUs are well ahead. The Intel Ice Lake 64 EU GPU is neck and neck with AMD's Vega 10. These iGPUs are much better suited to running this game at the 1366x768 High Preset, for example, where average frame rates of approx 60fps can be achieved.
