HP is at Gamescom showing off new HP Omen and Pavilion gaming PCs, perhiperals and accessories. Probably the most interesting highlight of the showcase is the first HP gaming laptop to feature an AMD processor - the new Pavilion Gaming 15. The other product that grabbed my attention was the 240Hz eSports ready Omen X 27 Display.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15

Here we have the first AMD-CPU powered gaming laptop from HP. Buyers can configure the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 with up to a Ryzen 7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti with Max-Q design graphics.

This bold angular design 15-inch laptop comes with micro-edge bezels with 144Hz or 60Hz 1080p display options. A dual fan, dual heatpipe, wide rear corner vent, and enlarged air inlet chassis design keeps things cool even during extended usage, says HP.

Other attractions are the laptop's 802.11 ac Wi-Fi 5 option, up to PCIe SSD or dual-storage options, full sized backlit keyboard, B&O stereo sound with audio boost, a 23.5mm thickness and weight of 2.25kg. There is a decent selection of ports available to the left and right sides of the chassis; HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, 3x USB ports (3.1 Type-C, 3.1 Type-A, and 2.0 Type-A), a card reader, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack (as well as a barrel power connector to the left).

HP says that the configurable Pavilion Gaming 15 will become available in September with pricing from $799.99.

HP Omen X 27

This is a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution display which is AMD Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR certified. The 2K panel sports a maximum 240Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time (overdrive on - 3ms when off). This is a TN panel but still offers 90 per cent PCI-P3 colour plus wide viewing angles. HDR local dimming with 16-zones helps boost the contrast levels.

HP has designed the Omen X 27 with three sided micro-edge bezels, which it says is great for multi-monitor setups. The design also features ambient lighting and a height and tilt adjustable (and detachable - for VESA alternatives) metal stand.

Picture mode settings are easily toggled through in the OSD or Omen Command Centre and you can choose from; standard, gaming, movie, warm, cool, native, low blue light and HP enhance+ settings. Gamers may appreciate the built-in FPS counter and multitude of crosshair overlay options too.

The new HP Omen X 27 has 1 x HDMI 2.0, 2 x USB 3.0, 1 x DisplayPort 1.4, 1 x Audio output (headphone), and HDCP support.

HP's Omen X 27 Display is expected to be available in September via HP.com and other retailers for a starting price of $649.99.

At Gamescom HP has quite an extensive product range available to peruse. As well as the products highlighted above there are Pavilion desktops and gaming keyboards, plus Omen accessories like headsets, keyboards and bags.

Finally, someone taking an AMD gaming laptop seriously and not gimping it with weird designs and removed features unnecessarily compared to its Intel opposition parts.
Tabbykatze
not gimping it

I thought that leather clad laptop was Intel equipped?
