Gigabyte has served up some images of its top-to-bottom family, of upcoming Intel X79 powered mainboards.

Being mindful of Intel's launch plans, the company hasn't gone into detail about the specifications, but the images below give an idea of just what to expect.

Up in flagship position, is the G1. Assassin 2, pictured above.

Next up, is the X79-UD7, pictured above.

Moving on, we have the X79-UD5, pictured above.

Lastly, comes the X79-UD3, pictured above.

Word has it, that the X79-UD3 goes with an 8+1 phase VRM for the CPU, and a 4-phase VRM for the memory, whilst featuring four DIMM slots. The X79-UD5, on the other hand, apparently provides a hearty 14-phase VRM for CPU power delivery, whilst retaining a 4-phase VRM for the memory. It additionally doubles the amount of DIMM slots up to eight, and is kitted-out with POSCAP capacitors.

Is it just me or dose the vrm on both the ud5 and ud7 look better than the “flagship” g1 assassin2?
Why is the UD5 the only one with 8 ram slots?
If it is anything like the current x58 lineup, the “G1 assassin” range won't actually be the premium/flagship board, but rather have a more gamer-oriented (but sweet) feature set. For example, expect a Creative audio chip (as opposed to realtek + creative software) and Bigfoot Killer NIC. On the other hand, the UD7 (or UD9) will probably be the “high end” with fewer fancier add-ons, but the premium spec. Although as others have said, it is very odd that the UD5 is the one with 8 memory slots…

I wonder if the UD7 is being pitched at the O/C market like the affordable-but-woefully-consumer-feature-poor X58-OC that was released recently. Hmm, well, only the UD7 has 4 PCIx16 slots, so maybe its not *so* feature-lite!

OK, so it seems:

UD3 = affordable/budget
Assassin = Gamer
UD5 = enthusiast/home-workstation
UD7 = extreme/overclocker (I believe extreme O/C types don't usually use too many RAM sticks for fear of indroducing timing issues etc).

In terms of the VRM coolers.. yes, the g1 styling is naff.

Gamers don't need 8 slots, and will likely be able to run faster with just four dimms. Budget buyers don't need 8 slots, and are likely to run cheaper with just four dimms. UD5 is for people like me who want a more workstation-like setup, though I'm happy with my 6 dimm slots at the moment - I can dream of a 64GB home setup :D

That makes sense. Thanks!!
