AOC has launched a pair of new gaming monitors into its Agon PC gaming range. The new AOC Agon AG271FZ2 and AG251FZ2 FHD gaming monitors boast a headlining response time of 0.5ms (MPRT). Other key attractions of these new 27- and 24.5-inch monitors are; AMD FreeSync, max refresh rate of 240Hz, dedicated gaming enhancements, a built in 4-port USB 3.0 hubs, and quick switch controller keypads.

Both the AOC Agon AG271FZ2 and AG251FZ2 use fast TN-type display panels. These FHD screens offer a max brightness of 400nits, and quite wide viewing angles 170°h/160°v. The FreeSync range on offer is from 48Hz to 240Hz for both screens and this functionality works over either the DP or HDMI ports. This very wide range should help minimise screen stuttering or tearing over a wide range of settings when using a compatible GPU.

Other enhancements to attract gamers include; low framerate compensation (LFC),Low Input Lag display processing bypass, and Shadow Control. More general monitor enhancements include the common but useful Low Blue Light Mode, to help prevent fatigue when using this monitor for extended periods or though the evening.

Turning to the non-screen features of these monitors, both feature quad-port USB 3.0 hubs with a fast-charging port, along with 3.5-mm audio input and output. You can connect up to your PC via DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4/2.0, DVI-D, and D-Sub connectors. A pair of 3W speakers are built-in too for convenient bleeps etc. If you don't like or need the pivot, tilt, and rotate adjustable stand provided, AOC has designed these monitors with 100x100 VESA mounts.

Pricing for these two monitors can be discovered via Amazon US listings. The AOC Agon AG271FZ2 is sold for $379.99, and the Agon AG251FZ2 retails for $329.99. I don't have UK/European pricing and availability details at the time of writing. Buyers get a three year warranty.

I thought the whole debate about freesync vs g-sync was that freesync could never handle refresh rates that high.

At least, that was what Nvidia said when people were questioning the $400 g-sync board
TN panels? Are we going few steps back in time ?

Low response times with IPS isn't achievable currently at this price point. It's not uncommon for gaming monitors to be TN panels; though would love to see more development in that area!
