Monitor maker ViewSonic has today announced two additions to its VX high performance range of monitors, one a widescreen TFT and the other a TFT with a staggering 2ms response time. The two monitors -VX2022 and VX922 - are, according to ViewSonic, the world's fastest 20" 16:10 widescreen TFT and fastest 19" TFT respectively.

The complaint many have had about TFTs has been the response time, especially for gamers and movie viewers. However, as 12ms and 8ms panels became available, and the price of 17" panels dropped, the CRT faced a near-total demise. Now we're at the stage where users want bigger and faster, which is exactly what we're seeing here. Fast response time widescreen and silly response time regular panels. ViewSonic's press release doesn't state the colour depth of the panels, which hopefully are 8-bit parts rather than the visually poorer 6-bit variety.

ViewSonic won't be alone for long. We expect many manufacturers will have similar products on the market soon, perhaps a few scrambling to get them to distributors and stores before the holiday season?
