Dell has shown off a new Ultra HD monitor. The Dell UltraSharp 32 was unveiled at the SIGGRAPH event this week in Anaheim, California and Engadget managed to get hands on (or rather eyes-on) time with the monitor. SIGGRAPH is a conference and exhibition all about computer graphics and interactive techniques, so such a monitor would be of great interest to many content creation professionals attending.
The UltraSharp 32 will be Dell's largest and highest resolution UltraSharp monitor and is "designed for media & entertainment professionals doing colour critical work including film & video editors, animators, game and app developers, modellers and programmers". Dell also adds that it provides a high pixel density with "phenomenal front of screen performance".
The key specs of the Dell UltraSharp 32, as taken from the Dell press release are:
- Ultra HD 3840x2160 resolution
- High performance IGZO screen technology
- Wide colour gamut with 1.07 billion colours – more than 64 times more colours than standard monitors
- Total colour control via the included Dell UltraSharp Colour Calibration Solution software, including hardware LUT access.
Engadget's short time with the monitor was enough for them to notice the selection of ports and connections on offer includes; "both full and mini display ports (with the requisite cable included), HDMI jack, a built-in USB hub and an SD card reader along the left side". The writer was impressed by the display quality, especially the deep blacks on offer. It was also noted that the model on show had a matte rather than gloss display. A new aluminium adjustable stand supplied with this monitor replaces a plastic clad stand supplied with previous UltraSharp monitors.
The Dell UltraSharp 32 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013 however the company has issued no word on pricing as yet..
