Almost an entire year has passed since Gyration, the consumer electronics branch of Movea, announced the launch of its Air Mouse.
Hoping to breathe new life into its range of motion-sensing peripherals, the California-based outfit has launched a successor to 2008's wireless pointer in the form of the Air Mouse Elite.
The new-look model, pictured above, features Movea's proprietary motion-sensing technology, allowing the mouse to provide precise in-air motion tracking. Think of it as a Wii-mote designed for presentations. As with previous models, the Air Mouse Elite uses radio frequencies and functions at a range of up to 100 feet.
New to the Elite is an improved version of the bundled MotionTools software - a suite designed to recognise specific gestures aimed at "energising presentations" by activating special effects at the flick of a wrist. "A lecturer can turn the mouse cursor into a highlighter, laser pointer or pen, or gently swipe it in-air to activate embedded media", says Gyration.
The mouse, equipped with a laser for standard desktop use, weighs 3.3 ounces and is designed for both left-handed and right-handed users. There's no mention of a UK launch as yet, but it'll be available to North American customers in the coming weeks at a cost of $99.99.
