Plantronics reveals remote working strategy

Cunning plan

Plantronics has been a major player in both the wired and Bluetooth headset markets for some time now, but as people expect ever more from their communication equipment, it's under pressure to deliver something new.

At MWC 2010, Plantronics EMEA MD - Philip Vanhoutte - showcased a number of products and services, all linked by the concept of remote working. It seems that people are increasingly working from home, or on the move, and it's Plantronics' aim to become their one-stop-shop for headsets.

For the home, the emphasis is on unified communications. Plantronics is already big in call centres, where VoIP-enabled UC is commonplace. With a number of services already available that allow you to channel all your communication through one interface, UC use should become more commonplace - even in the home.

So Plantronics launched four new additions to its .audio wired DSP (digital signal processing) stereo headset range. They feature noise cancelling technology and wideband for a more natural sound.

Plantronics were joined by Richard Leyland, the founder of a company - WorkSnug - that makes an augmented reality app for people looking for a good place to work in the field. Plantronics is sponsoring the company as the provider of added value to its Bluetooth headset range.

WorkSnug launched its app for the iPhone at MWC, and you can see how it works in the video below. There is a version for Barcelona and we can confirm that it works.
