Performance and gaming PC components specialist G.SKILL has announced some new memory kits aimed at high-end gaming laptops, AiOs and small form factor PCs. Yes, you've guessed it, these are SO-DIMM kits. These high capacity additions to the Ripjaws SO-DIMM family are DDR4 3000MHz CL16 kits running at 1.2V. G.SKILL has preconfigured memory kits in 8GB to 32GB (16GBx2) capacities.

Being DDR4 SO-DIMMs, these memory kits are intended for 6th Gen Intel Core processor equipped systems. The Intel XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) 2.0 standard is supported to make it easy to get the greatest performance out of these memory modules, either through the BIOS or via Windows-based software tools.

G.SKILL is particularly proud that its newest Ripjaws DDR4 3000MHz SO-DIMMs can hit that headline frequency at 1.2V. Such speedy memory typically requires 1.35V. The lower voltage results in components that enhance the power efficiency of your system. This could be a nice bonus, particularly if you are buying these G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR4 kits for a laptop rather than AiO or SFF PC. Lower power infers means a smaller thermal footprint.

The previous top speed rated Ripjaws DDR4 SO-DIMMs were 2800MHz kits in capacities up to 64GB. G.SKILL says its new 3000MHz CL16 kits will be available from authorised retailers and distributors later this month.

It's nice to see some enthusiast SO-DIMMS. Hopefully we will see more overclocking friendly mITX and mATX boards equipped for them.

Personally, I find full sized ATX systems a bit out-dated. Unless you're running multi-CPU and Multi-GPU you can run a more compact system powered by a SFX PSU without any compromises.

And enthusiast SO-DIMMS may allow even an overclockable x99 mITX board without losing 2 memory channels.
