Day Two, 12am

12am (Day Two)
I’ve decided if I ever meet the guy who thought of the Security Centre, I’m going to kill him. I’m going to fashion myself a big red shield, just like the one I now have permanently on my system tray, and I’m going to bludgeon him to a pulp with it. Just because I’ve turned off the User Control thing, I now have a red shield. Which means that unless I open the bloody security centre, I have no idea if anything’s wrong. What happened to the old XP and MCE way of doing things where if you turned off your firewall you could tell the OS not to monitor it as you had it covered? Where’s the “No, it’s fine, I know what I’m doing so make that little shield green again!” button?

Right, let’s move on and get all my attached devices working... oh and WHY IS THERE NO SOUND????

1am
Another reboot. And joy of joys, Active Sync isn’t supported under Vista... even the beta version is no good. So now I have the beta of Windows Mobile Sync centre. But my PDA is now a Smartphone which, according to Vista, is running an out of date and incompatible version of Windows Media Player. I don’t care. What I want to know is why there’s no bloody sound! And if you try and open up another bloody explorer window for the ‘mass storage device’ that is quite clearly an iPod, I swear I’m going to tear your bytes out one by one.

And eat them.

2am
I’m not sure if it’s the caffeine high or something but the supplied wallpapers look niiiiice.

3am
Ok, let’s get connected to my Outlook Exchange server. Yes, let’s install the certificate. Oh, you already saw it a certificate and have installed it already? Nice one. Yes, iTunes is an executable and yes I want to run it.. hang on, I turned that shit off!!! AAARRRGH!

4am
Need sleep.

Matchsticks and tape on eyelids failing.

Outlook still reporting certificate is not from a trusted source and still not connecting.

5am
Through the sleep barrier now. Half a pack of ProPlus and six Anadin extra did the trick. Am buzzing so bad I’m creating static just by sitting still.
I’ve sorted the certificate problem, Vista superbly auto-installed it to a non-trusted section. The very helpful help files sorted that and showed me the way to the Certificate Manager which was a doddle to use and get the problem sorted.
Now, just need to get my webcam sorted and find out why I still have no bloody sound!
