Final thoughts and rating

The Cooler Master HAF 922 is a solid, no-nonsense chassis that's aimed at the user who requires a sub-£100 case which focuses on airflow and ease of installation.

Smaller than the HAF 932 but no worse off for it for most users, cooling performance, once the ambient temperature has been accounted for, is reasonably similar to other chassis in the same pricing space. Fan flexibility is another positive point, and the spacious interior provides adequate area to position a water-cooling radiator without any problems.

Screw-less installation of drives and an additional expansion slot all aid installation and flexibility, so there's clearly lots of good here. However, the HAF 922 isn't perfect. The large-diameter fans are louder than the 700rpm would intimate, without recourse to a fan-controller to manually modulate their speeds, and we'd like to see Cooler Master extend dust filters to the optional bottom and side fans, and, perhaps, a Perspex window on the side-panel, to keep internal dust to a minimum.

The HAF 922, too, is large enough to house an eATX motherboard but Cooler Master does not include the necessary mounts for design reasons. Lastly, dedicated 2.5in bays wouldn't go amiss, either.

Our slight reservations centre on the facets that would make the HAF 922 perfect. As it is, priced at £90 we doubt that potential buyers who wish to house high-end systems would be disappointed. It cools reasonably well and is easy to build into - two must-have requirements for any decent chassis.

Bottom line: a solid, good-looking chassis that just needs a few tweaks to go from good to great.

Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?
This is a fantastic bit of kit.

I bought one two weeks ago to replace my ageing P180 and this HAF922, although £20-plus cheaper, is far, far better.

Very impressed and apart from the known lack of a 200mm fan for the side-panel, I've not a single complaint.

It is much more spacious and very much more quiet (with 3 case fans in my P180 and 5 in the HAF922) and cooler.

Good stuff! :)

I'd like to add that the reason it's quieter is because I can run the HD4870 (stock cooler for now) at a lower fan speed, which is inevitably more quiet than the 45 - 50% I've had to have it at in the P180, what with the warmer weather and all.

In the HAF922 I have it at 35% speed via the CCC and get around 40°C at idle and up to 62° under strain (Clear Sky battle - DX10). I'll be fitting the Accelero soon.

CPU temps are mid 30's C at idle and high 50's under load, with an AC Freezer7 Pro with no fan.

I had the P180 & it was great then I looked at buying this case but lack of dust covers meant the components would be covered & lots of cleaning. So stupid me went for SST-TJ10 instead :O_o1:

Nice review, will look forward to the reviews for the Raven 2 (RV02) & Fortress 2 FT02 “too” !
