Final Thoughts and Rating

On paper, the GRone has a lot going for it, and, if you like the way it looks (that's admittedly a big if), the chassis can also be rewarding in use.

For £100, the GRone has bags of potential. The full-tower chassis vows to accommodate the meatiest of builds, it'll happily cool with either air or liquid, and with USB 3.0, an integrated fan controller and external SATA, it has all the right trimmings.

On paper, the GRone has a lot going for it, and, if you like the way it looks (that's admittedly a big if), the chassis can also be rewarding in use. It's very easy to build into, feeling roomy throughout, and in its out-the-box configuration the GRone does a good job of cooling high-end components.

But it almost seems as though In Win is trying to do too much. Though the GRone feature list is brimming, quite a few of the components fall short of reaching their full potential. The fan controller is basic, the external SATA dock is fiddly to use, there's no rubber on the feet, cable management is too heavily geared toward Extended ATX platforms, and the white paintwork isn't as attractive as it might have been.

In the hotly-contested chassis market the little details separate the good from the great, and In Win needs to pay closer attention to the finer points if it's to truly compete with the established competition.

The Good

Good air cooling performance
Lots of liquid-cooling potential
Easily houses a high-end build
Large side window
Roomy throughout

The Bad

Cable management could be better
Fan-speed controller is basic
Looks are an acquired taste
Plastic elements feel fragile

It looks like a futuristic mini fridge
Silly name. Looks like at CM Stacker from 8 years ago, slightly updated (moved the PSU to bottom, turned HD cage sideways, that is about it).

Other than Lian Li and sometime Silverstone (both of whom I have had quality issues with) is anyone actually designing original cases or simply retreading old designs
I like the white, but the red writing spoils it a bit for me. It looks a little 1970's sci-fi retro, like something from 2001: Space Odyssey or Alien.
Looks like a lego model, the same shade blue as old-school lego windscreens! Not my cup-o-tea, I've always preferred simple and functional cases… but it is very distinctive if you like it, got a sort of retro 80s feel to it.

Do white cases still go yellow over time with the heat like they used in the olden days before black was fashionable for electronics?
its ugly, white and has a blue tinted window. It might look better in black as the eye will slide over it much easier.
