Final Thoughts and Rating
...the 900D looks fantastic, it's built like a tank and it can house more radiators and fans than any rival we can think of.Would-be buyers of the Obsidian Series 900D certainly won't be left wanting in terms of size, but the question isn't do you need all this room, it's what will you do with it? Today's CPUs and GPUs are efficient enough to work well in tight confines and the industry as a whole is transitioning to smaller, lighter and more efficient computing devices. Heck, even Nvidia's most extreme graphics card is championed as an ideal solution for small-form-factors.
Going against the grain, Corsair's ultimate chassis is designed for those few who have the funds to design and build exorbitant rigs. There's nothing wrong with that, but the chassis' extreme positioning makes it unique compared to its predecessor. The 800D was an innovative product that, while tailored toward an enthusiast audience, introduced several clever features that would eventually filter down to Corsair's mid-range solutions. The 900D is different in the sense that there's not a lot new here that we'd one day like to see on a mid-range chassis.
This is very much a no-holds-barred approach to liquid cooling. It doesn't matter if the chassis won't fit beneath your desk; it doesn't matter that there's little in the way of soundproofing; what matters is that the 900D looks fantastic, it's built like a tank and it can house more radiators and fans than any rival we can think of.
Getting ready to splurge at least a couple of grand on your next liquid-cooled build? The Obsidian Series 900D is a superabundant chassis that's designed specifically with you in mind.
