Final Thoughts and Rating

...the 900D looks fantastic, it's built like a tank and it can house more radiators and fans than any rival we can think of.

Would-be buyers of the Obsidian Series 900D certainly won't be left wanting in terms of size, but the question isn't do you need all this room, it's what will you do with it? Today's CPUs and GPUs are efficient enough to work well in tight confines and the industry as a whole is transitioning to smaller, lighter and more efficient computing devices. Heck, even Nvidia's most extreme graphics card is championed as an ideal solution for small-form-factors.

Going against the grain, Corsair's ultimate chassis is designed for those few who have the funds to design and build exorbitant rigs. There's nothing wrong with that, but the chassis' extreme positioning makes it unique compared to its predecessor. The 800D was an innovative product that, while tailored toward an enthusiast audience, introduced several clever features that would eventually filter down to Corsair's mid-range solutions. The 900D is different in the sense that there's not a lot new here that we'd one day like to see on a mid-range chassis.

This is very much a no-holds-barred approach to liquid cooling. It doesn't matter if the chassis won't fit beneath your desk; it doesn't matter that there's little in the way of soundproofing; what matters is that the 900D looks fantastic, it's built like a tank and it can house more radiators and fans than any rival we can think of.

Getting ready to splurge at least a couple of grand on your next liquid-cooled build? The Obsidian Series 900D is a superabundant chassis that's designed specifically with you in mind.

The Good

Looks formidable
Insane liquid-cooling potential
Up to 15 storage bays
Solid cast aluminium frame
Excellent cable management
Might be the last chassis you'll ever need

The Bad

Fragile cable latches
No integrated fan controller
Little in the way of soundproofing

The motherboard looks lost in your test rig, more space than parts… I think this is out of the thinking of most users but the Uber mod'ers this would be a dream !
I'm not supportive of testing cases with their standard configuration. Most people purchasing a case for their computer will be comfortable enough optimising the airflow in their case so at the very least a second option should be provided to get an idea of how well the case does with an improved setup. My old CM 690 didn't have very good cooling with its stock 2 fans but there were 5 other slots available to put 140mm fans and when I added my own fans to the system I found it to have great cooling capacity.

It was a good review, sad to hear a few features are missing like Corsair Link. Seems strange to have a premium case without all the bells and whistles. It is a tantalising prospect for water cooling though, can fit massive radiators in it without them even being noticed really.
Beautiful beast. Job well done Corsair. Well done!
I generally don't like Corsair cases and it's the same story with thisone. They don't style them. Everyone can build a big box and then fit computer hardware in it.
You don't need that much space, even for a hardcore gaming setup…
It's just for show-off, nothing else…
Over and out.
