Externals II, Cooling

The back of the PC carries a lot of the brilliant Cooler Master features including lots of thumbscrews holding the side panels and removable motherboard tray in place, a quick release PSU bracket, and chrome wire fan grills. Chrome wire fan grills are usually replaced by the new snazzy laser cut fan grills. Personally I prefer the chrome wire grills as they reduce air turbulence when air is being exhausted out of the PC. Air turbulence causes noise which a lot of PC users are trying to cut down on as they are aiming for a silent PC. There are 2 x 80mm fans which are located above the PCI expansion slots on the removable motherboard tray. These fans are in an excellent location for exhausting the hot air away from vital components within the computer.

Next to the exhaust fans is the I/O plate which comes with one of the more common I/O plate configurations already installed. I removed this and installed my own I/O plate to suit my own motherboard.

The SilverStone TJ-03 is made from 1.5mm aluminium. The side panels are held in place by 2 thumbscrews. On top of the case is a small vent which hides an 80mm case fan. Computers generate a lot of hot air and require a lot of cooling. This case has a total of 4 case fans, 3 x 80mm (2 x 3 pin and 1 x 4 pin) and 1 x 120mm (4 pin with RPM cable).
