Conclusion

...Antec had the makings of a beautiful full-tower enclosure that offered super-sleek aesthetics and plenty of room for even the most elaborate of builds.

As is the case for many readers, we've been quietly hoping that Antec will one day re-emerge as a first-rate producer of premium PC enclosures.

However, while the manufacturer's high-end PSUs are among the very best, its top-of-the-line chassis are leaving something to be desired. With the P380, Antec had the makings of a beautiful full-tower enclosure that offered super-sleek aesthetics and plenty of room for even the most elaborate of builds.

Unfortunately, the end package is so reliant on the allure of its aluminium fascia, that too little attention has been paid to the enclosure's inner workings. There are obvious oversights, including obscured 5.25in optical bays, a front filter that's difficult to get at and a storage column that's needlessly complicated to remove. As a result, performance remains decent but the chassis isn't a whole lot of fun to work with.

Such deficiencies are hard to overlook in what's a highly congested market, however Antec isn't a million miles away. The P380 remains a real looker, and with a little extra thought applied to the interior, a v2 revision could go a step closer to justifying the £160 fee.

The Good

The Bad
Aluminium veil looks nice
Spacious interior
Good-sized side window
Room for multiple large radiators

5.25in bays of limited use
Awkward I/O port positioning
Storage cages a bugger to remove
No SSD bays behind motherboard
Front filter difficult to get at
Fan hub is basic

Been a long time since Antec made a case worthy of considering compared to the competition. The likes of Corsair really did steal the lime light from Antec.
To be fair, the only optical solution listed on the Antec product home page is the slimline port, and there's no mention, at all, of 5.25" bays.

Either way, I still don't care for the look. It's obviously aimed at water coolers, which is out of my area of interest - I much prefer the original 900 style of case.
I like the look of the case but can't understand that storage column with 5.25" bays, the Define S got it right by removing that completely and made room for HDDs at the rear.

An interesting case but I prefer the Fractal Design Define S, much better suited to extreme watercooling or even air cooling with its unobstructed airflow.
Fond memories of my old P150 and P180 cases, both offered nice little solutions for good performance whilst remaining quiet and an aesthetic that really appealed.

However, the game has moved on, and this doesn't seem to have moved on far at all.

The lack of full size optical drive really is not a concern for me personally, losing the slimline drive would also be fine - an external drive to use for both desktop and laptop use when required makes more sense to me considering how infrequently it would be put into service. I'd lose 3.5" drive support at the same time and shrink the case down.
I'm all about itx cases for me at the moment, unless your serious water cooling enthusiast with a bank of hard drives I see no point in adding to a saturated full tower market.
