Conclusion
...if you're fond of the original, Air 740 uses a familiar dual-chamber approach to deliver ultra-high-end air- or liquid-cooling potential.Corsair is following-up the success of its popular Carbide Series Air 540 with the launch of a new variant for 2016. Evolutionary rather than revolutionary, the Air 740, priced at £135, offers a lot of what's good about the original with a few incremental upgrades.
A quick-release windowed side panel is the most obvious enhancement, while the relocation of hard-disk bays from the front chamber to the rear further tidies the interior. The omission of any available 5.25in optical bays is a surprise, particularly when you consider the chassis has grown in size, but if you're fond of the original, Air 740 uses a familiar dual-chamber approach to deliver ultra-high-end air- or liquid-cooling potential.
We'd liked to have to seen Corsair up the ante by including a fan controller, PWM fans and sound-dampened panels, yet while the Air 740 doesn't do enough to warrant an upgrade from the existing Air 540, it continues to serve as a viable option for enthusiasts seeking something a little different to the traditional tower.
The Good The Bad Lots of space for a high-end ATX build
Very good cable management
Three bundled 140mm fans
Primed for elaborate liquid cooling
Quick-release windowed side panel No 5.25in drive bays
Does little to contain noise
Even bigger than the large Air 540
Lacks front-facing USB 3.1 Type-C
