The Candidates – Introduction

Our review candidates cover a wide spread of manufacturers and price ranges. From the sub-£6 Intel stock cooler to the £65+ behemoths, we've covered every budget.

We also wanted to see whether it's possible to run a high-heat CPU passively, so we ran a few coolers through without any fans.

Where all the coolers have been listed out - in performance charts, for instance - we've identified those that were run passively by placing (P) after the name. Where the same cooler is used actively with a fan, the name is followed, as you'd guess, by an (A). All other coolers were used actively with fans and have nothing after their names.

We tried to pair coolers with fans from the cooler's maker but when that was not possible we chose suitable alternatives.
