Power, Temperature and Noise
The price to pay for chart-leading performance is overall system power consumption that, by far, is the worst on the chart. It may be fast, but it's rather thirsty too. The board idles at 16W or so, for those interested.
We do wonder how the power characteristics would have been if Nvidia had managed to snag TSMC's 7nm process. Would we have seen higher frequencies at sub-300W board power. Quite likely, and using 8nm Samsung, as all RTX 30-sereis do, gives AMD some room to manoeuvre
Nvidia's Founders Edition cooler does a good job at keeping temperatures in check.
And credit where it's due, it doesn't make much noise when cooling 320W. Mission accomplished as far as acoustics and thermals are concerned, but do remember there are no custom-cooled partner cards in the charts as yet. The Founders Edition will compare less favourably to competitors from the likes of Asus and MSI, and we'll have full reviews of such cards in the coming days.
