We're back in smooth country with Far Cry 3. A stock-clocked R9 285 would be a touch slower than an R9 280, mind, and we believe it's a lack of usable memory bandwidth that is the cause here.

The average and minimum framerates are very similar between the three cards. Closer examination shows that AMD Radeons produce a a larger percentage of fast frames. Yet with even that being the case, the R9 285, for some reason, struggles when looking at the very slowest frames. The two graphs aren't at loggerheads with one another; it's possible to have a lot of fast frames and a tiny proportion of very slow ones, too.
This focus on what's happening inside each frame can lead away from the real purpose, that is, the Radeon R9 285 is a very competent performer in Far Cry 3.
