Review: Gigabyte Aorus Z370 Gaming 7

Conclusion

Aorus is staking an early claim for providing a feature-rich, premium Z370 chipset-based motherboard that's home to Intel's new 8th Gen Core processors.

The Z370 Gaming 7 takes last year's model as a base but features a far more overt makeover than most of the competition. We like the new aesthetic yet are left a little deflated by the removal of Thunderbolt capability and some storage capability, set to a backdrop of price increasing from £220 to £275.

One can argue that adding additional features to Z370, particularly storage, don't make a lot of sense - the limited number of platform expansion lanes means that inevitable compromises have to be made when filling all slots.

That said, the sample board provided the highest overclock and this is therefore a board for enthusiasts who wish to run a Core i7-8700K at, or near, 5GHz on a long-term basis.

Bottom line: fast, effortlessly easy to overclock and looking the business, this is about as premium as Z370 can get. Recommend to enthusiasts who indulge in long-term overclocking.
