Onboard gaming

Onboard graphics performance was evaluated with the GMA 950 run with system memory set to DDR533 (3-2-2-8) and DDR666 (3-3-3-8) speeds. The premise is that greater system bandwidth should boost scores a touch, albeit at the cost of some additional latency. The XPRESS 200 IGP was run with system memory set to DDR400 speeds.

A couple of hundred marks from an increase in system and GMA 950's bandwidth.

Extra bandwidth still can't overcome an unoptimised XPRESS 200 setup. 665 marks sounds reasonable enough until you learn that the games tests average between 1.5-3FPS. Both integrated graphics are capable of running games at low-ish resolutions with detail turned down. Try something that gives a GeForce 6800 Ultra a headache and it becomes a slideshow.

Far Cry just runs better on XPRESS 200.

It's the same test as on the previous page. Both integrated GPUs perform poorly. There may come a day when integrated graphics rival a discrete midrange card's performance. Today's not that day, however.
