Conclusion

...an enjoyable gaming experience that's fast, high on detail and buttery smooth.

X= enters the gaming fray with a £270 monitor designed to bring high-performance thrills to a wider audience.

The relatively small sum affords a known 27in IPS panel whose 2,560x1,440 resolution and 165Hz FreeSync make for an enjoyable gaming experience that's fast, high on detail and buttery smooth.

Such characteristics are bolstered through uniform and accurate out-the-box colours, yet something has to give at this price point, and there are some important shortcomings to be aware of. The absence of height adjustment is a sore point given that the display sits quite low, there aren't any onboard speakers, and our sample of one exhibits noticeable IPS bleed in the corners. Are any of these points likely to be deal breakers for the target audience? Perhaps not, particularly if you happen to have your own VESA-compliant mount.

Bottom line: for those less inclined to spend big on all-singing, all-dancing gaming monitors, the X= XRGB27WQ offers competent QHD gaming at up to 165Hz without breaking the bank.

Nathan Jarman, X= Brand Manager, issued the following right2reply on September 14:

I’m very confident in our returns and repairs team and we are eager to make amends with our customers if our product is found to be at fault. Since we offer a three year warranty this issue would be delt with very swiftly, by either offering a repair, a replacement if the repair is unsuccessful or a discount for the monitor if the customer wants to keep their unit, all within 30 days of purchase and completely covered by AWD-IT.

Beyond the 30 days we would be able to offer a repair or discount but not a replacement if the fault wasn’t reported within the 30 days.

However if there’s a severe fault with the product within the 3 years that’s completely out of the customers control (dead unit) then we would of course cover this and send out a replacement. After 90 days we wouldn’t be able to cover the returns postage. We would make an executive decision dependant on the fault and if found not to be caused by the customer.

  • Faulty items will be repaired or replaced within 30 days of purchase.
  • Severe faults will be replaced within the 3 years if found not to be caused by the customer.
  • Return postage costs for faulty items are covered for the initial 90 days of product ownership.
  • Repairs/modifications not performed by AWD-IT will void warranty.
  • Damage incurred due to poor packaging when an item is returned to us is not covered. If being returned for a refund, a charge will apply to replace damaged parts. We strongly recommend customers keep the original packaging to prevent damage upon return.
  • Faults caused by accidental damage are not covered under the warranty.
