Final thoughts and rating

In there a need?

Thinking about it for a moment, the question isn't whether it works or not - it patently does - it's one of whether you actually have a pressing need for it, given the £135 asking price. Impressive as the Stream HD is from six feet or so, functioning just like a hard-wired connection, one could simply purchase a 3m HDMI cable for £5 and achieve the same effect, albeit with a wire trailing between laptop and screen. It's not lost on us that KFA2's product introduces more wires and adapters than a single HDMI cable.

Move transmitter and receiver away from one another and the Stream HD makes more sense. One can fashion a case for it in a business environment, where the receiver is constantly plugged in to a projector, or if you require no-hassle streaming in and around the home.

The KFA2 Stream HD's attractiveness is directly related to just how much you want to export 1080p video from your laptop/console to a big-screen TV without having to use a bridging HDMI cable. While you still need to connect a number of cables and boxes together for it to work, the underlying technology works very well. And best of all, it's compatible with a wide range of HDMI devices - be they tablets, smartphones, consoles or PCs.

The Good

Works just like a hard-wired HDMI connection
Setup takes but two minutes
Compatible with a wide range of HDMI devices

The Bad

Introduces more wires and plugs than it replaces
Dongle can hamper laptop battery life

I agree that attaching a laptop via a HDMI cable is easier but I can see the point if you want to stream internet video DVD/Blueray from a desktop in another room.

If this is the case £130 to replace a blueray or DVD player is ok. Not being able to remote control the desktop would be more problematic though.
Must say it's far easier to just stream wirelessly over the home network on my Samsung tv, also can just stick a 1080p mkv on a usb stick if networks a bit slow for full HD. I'd say it might be good for streaming iPlayer to the tv or something like that but again the samsung tv has that built in. I like my tv if you can't tell.

So that leaves gaming I suppose, would be nice to use my gaming machine on the 46" in the lounge, not going to lug the desktop down there though. Would require some form of wireless control though. I guess if it came bundled free with high end graphics cards it would be cool.
