PCMark and Windows File Transfer
PCMark's data drive benchmark examines NAS products through three traces that entail copying 339 JPEG files to the server (write test), making a copy of said files (read-write test) and then copying the files to another drive (read test). Qnap's TS-451D2 delivers solid numbers for a dual-core GbE NAS and slots in just behind the quad-core Synology DS920+.
Performance is ultimately in line with our expectations of an Intel-based GbE NAS. It takes 152 seconds to copy three files totalling 16.4GB to the TS-451D2 in our file copy test. Qnap's TS-453D, using a 2.5GbE connection, completes the same task in just 62 seconds, proving that even mechanical hard disks can benefit greatly from a faster interface.
