Wired, USB and Efficiency

Our next port of call is wired performance, or how quickly can we transfer a 2GB file from a laptop to a NAS via a particular router. ASRock's software may have fallen short of the mark, but the hardware is clearly well tuned, with the G10 delivering excellent results.

It's a similar story when copying the 2GB test file to an SSD connected to the router's USB port. The availability of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 remains a major attraction over most ISP-supplied solutions, and ASRock's G10 has the power to serve as a capable home server.

With a dual-core 1.4GHz processor under the hood, ASRock's G10 consumes a fraction more power than a BT Home Hub 5. It's worth remembering that both the BT and TP-Link solutions feature an integrated DSL modem, but ASRock's numbers are solid in most regards and the G10 chassis also remained suitably cool throughout testing.
