Conclusion

...a premium solution touting an array of high-end features that include a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 802.11ac multi-user MIMO connectivity...

With distributors across the globe and an established presence as one of the world's largest motherboard manufacturers, ASRock is branching out by turning its attention to high-end network equipment.

Having dabbled in mini PCs and barebone gaming rigs, the Taiwanese firm is using its experience in enthusiast hardware to deliver a high-performance router aimed squarely at gamers.

Dubbed the G10 and priced at an eye-watering £190, this is a premium solution touting an array of high-end features that include a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 802.11ac multi-user MIMO connectivity capable of speeds of up to 800Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 1,733Mbps on the 5GHz.

The headline figures are enticing, but in use the G10's core functions aren't too dissimilar to competing high-end routers, and in practise there isn't enough here to distinguish the device as a prime choice for gamers. What we have instead are unexpected additions that are rough around the edges. The usefulness of IR learning in a home router is questionable, and though a bundled HDMI casting device should offer genuine appeal, the included H2R isn't as refined as other readily available alternatives.

ASRock's attempt at a multi-purpose solution has ultimately resulted in a router that struggles to excel in any one area. Wireless speed on the 5GHz band is useful, however range is less forgiving and the admin panel feels incomplete. The G10 lays a foundation upon which ASRock can build, but it will need to forgo superfluous features and instead focus on the core essentials if it's to challenge the established players.

The Good

The Bad
Good wireless performance
Forward-looking multi-user MIMO
4x Gigabit Ethernet
USB 3.0 storage sharing

Admin panel needs work
Changing settings requires a reboot
Expensive at £190

So as with most “Gaming” hardware it's really standard hardware in a garish case and a premium added to the price.
AsRock's approach to start attacking ASUS….I think we might see a AsRock GTX or R9 soon….
AsRock is a subsidiary of ASUS. No need to attack daddy.
Does it come with the ASROCK guarantee of developing a fault or completely breaking after 12 months and 1 day?

Funny enough, I have a customers' Z77 Extreme sat behind me, which is dead of course, after it was replaced under warranty when they originally purchased it lol.

STAY CLEAR :D
Useless overpriced tat for people who beleive that all things that glitter are gold.
