GEL WRIST REST FOR EXTRA COMFORT
We tested the ROCCAT Alumic with two gaming mice, the ROCCAT Kova and the ROCCAT Kone. The speed optimised surface is really slick and feels very smooth. My mouse glided across it swiftly and I was able to shift it around and perform fast movements very quickly, which is ideal for first-person shooters. I like to play with medium sensitivity and medium Dpi settings on my mouse, and I found the speed optimised surface allowed me to whizz my mouse around quickly, while still being able to keep in control despite the acceleration. The control side of the pad is really designed for those who play on the high Dpi setting. You can feel a slight resistance as you drag your mouse across which gives a little bit more control while whizzing around. I was still able to shift my mouse around the board very quickly, but I found I had more control than I did have when using high Dpi on the speed side of the pad. When wanting to perform short movements with my reticule, when sniping, for example, this was ideal. While some will probably stick to using one side of the board, the option of having two is sure to appeal to people who play different genres of games and want to exert different levels of control.
What it all boils down to is: just how important is your mousepad to you? That’s the question you need to ask yourself before you make the decision to take the plunge or not and purchase Roccat’s latest high-end pad. At first glance, the Roccat Alumic mousepad seems ridiculously over-priced at £35, but for gamers who take things seriously this is a luxury that may be worth its weight in gold. With features such as a double-sided pad optimised for speed and control and its high quality aluminium core providing the stability and durability you need, the Alumic is a stylish looking pad that really does feel as luxurious as its price point suggests.
