Conclusion

The revised RM850, for example, offers decent electrical performance for an 80 PLUS Gold supply...

In an interesting move to solidify its mainstream PSU offerings, component juggernaut Corsair has introduced a trio of updated RM supplies that offer a clean aesthetic, good cabling options, near-silent operation, and solid performance in all aspects.

The revised RM850, for example, provides decent electrical performance for an 80 PLUS Gold supply, hitting most metrics with above-average numbers.

We don't miss the lack of Link compatibility and like the compact form factor and minimalist styling. Though backed by a 10-year warranty from a company that will most likely be around in that timeframe, the use of cheaper primary Taiwanese capacitors may put aficionados off. That and the use of a cheap(er) fan.

If you can get past both of these minor issues, the 2019 Corsair RM850 is the epitome of a competent, all-round power supply. Worth £100? Probably, given what else is available from the competition, though do be aware that the RMx is currently on sale for not much more.

Bottom line: a decent 850W supply that falls just short of a recommendation.

The Good

The Bad

I have an RM-750X which is superb. I got it on offer (given there are many decent PSUs available at each given output, I'd always go for one which is well discounted).

Looking inside, I would suspect these pictures are either marketing pictures or a cherry picked model was supplied as mine has a lot of hot snot in it and it's not very delicately placed. Not a problem unless you really care about white dribble on your secondary filtering caps.

The voltage regulation I get with it is utterly superb. I can't remember what the exact figures were but I remember that I've never had a PSU with such tight tolerances and I was actually amazed at how precise it was.

I would always ensure you get a decent PSU as it's one of those things which can go very wrong and the end result can be catastrophic. I ran my last one for 9 years before giving it away due to the hunger of a Vega64.
I've been running my RM850i at frequent 650-700W loads at high temps for 4 years now and it's an amazing PSU. The PSU is the last thing anyone should be skimping on, always buy the absolute best you can afford. These tend to be mostly Seasonic and Corsair.
