Conclusion

The small price premium over 2,400MHz kits is easy to jusitfy on the grounds of improved performance.

There is every reason now to consider system memory approaching DDR4-3,000 speeds. The small price premium over 2,400MHz kits is easy to jusitfy on the grounds of improved performance that may well be perceivable to gamers who have a high-performance card and play at a 1080p resolution for the most fluid of frame rates.

Crucial is rarely one to push the boat out in terms of frequency or latency, though it has built up a vast collection of DDR4 memory that suits every purpose.

Our review 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4-2,666 kit is a case in point. Well built, supremely easy to configure and looking the part, we'd actually go for the same-capacity kit in 8GB sticks. Not only does it leave space for increasing capacity on Intel Z270 and AMD X370, it is 10 per cent cheaper, too.

Bottom line: a solid kit for both Intel and AMD platforms.

Jesus, these prices.

I bought 32GB for less than that, late last year.
