Gaming Tests II
Does have masses of system memory help in booting the system from a cold boot to usable Windows XP desktop any faster. We tried to find out.The answer is generally no. Whilst this hand-timed test isn't the most accurate ever conducted at HEXUS, OCZ's dual-channel 2GB pack was consistently slower than both Corsair configurations. It's nothing to get excited about, though.
We usually run a UT2003 bot match to assess PCs' subsystem performance. In this case, we timed the length of time between activation and actual beginning of the benchmark. Again, there's very little in it.
The same test but reloading it once again. Prefetching, hard drive cache, and RAM capacity all play a part. 2GB isn't necessarily faster than a 1GB pack, but it was always a touch faster than when run with 512MB. I'm sure one could engineer scenarios in, say, Photoshop that would highlight the advantages of running 2GB of unbuffered RAM.
