Ultraviolet, a new name at the luxury end of the market, has used some of the finest components available when designing its range-topping Genesis XOC system. In fact, we have no quibbles with any of the choices. However, spending £4,534 on what is effectively a base unit necessitates more than just a sensible choice of components. Ultraviolet has opted to use esoteric liquid cooling for its signature 'wow factor'.
We'd recommend that Ultraviolet spends a little more time fine-tuning the overclock on shipping models, with higher front-side bus speeds and with system memory operating to at least specified levels - there's little point in investing in the eVGA Black Pearl motherboard and then running at 270MHz bus speed along with PC1066 DDR2 memory operating well below specification at 783MHz.
£4,534 is a fantastic sum of money for a base unit but Ultraviolet's Genesis XOC uses some truly high-end kit to reasonable effect. However, our immediate recommendations are for a factory-based tweak to the overclock settings and the inclusion of more system memory. As it is, it's a hugely fast system that'll just about tempt readers who've come into a small fortune. Good but not great.
