And likely overclocked to the hilt, too.

8 GB is good for rendering big projects in Maya, 3Ds Max or cinema 4D.
I can't see this being used as a gaming card by many as I don't think 4K is really there quite yet. Too much money and not enough support.
Just in case you need more E-peen :)

Nice looking card but I will wait in judgement to see if 8gb's actually anything more than a marketing gimmick atm.

Well judging from computerbase's Titan Black (6GB vs 3GB for the 780/780Ti) review that would be a no even at 4K:
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2014/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-black-mit-6-gb-im-test/4/

Average about 3% faster than the 780Ti and since the turbo on the black is ~5% higher the memory is not necessary. Actually on the non-Max setting (where the turbo boost mostly throttles and both 780Ti and Titan Black run at the frequency), the 780TI is 3% faster so there may be some overhead for having more memory, which is not unexpected. Since the R9-290/290X already have 4GB, the chance of them running out vram is even lower.

(Incidentally, they measured the Titan Black at 61.0 dB(A) vs R9-290X at 61.5 dB(A) but whereas AMD got lots of bad press for releasing such a loud card - deservedly so IMO - Nvidia seem to getting another free pass on that subject.)
