FREMONT, CA, October 22th, 2004 – In the 1U segment, the rackmount server market has seen a need for adaptability in configurations, while simultaneously looking for a high increase in performance. Enter the Tyan® Transport GX21 (B5350), a 1U barebones server that offers speed and flexibility in a highly compact space.

Using the incredible capabilities of the Intel® Xeon™ “Nocona” processors on an E7320 “Lindenhurst-VS” platform, the Transport GX21 (B5350) offers an 800MHz Front Side Bus to help deliver application performance beyond previous server limits, offering customers with the opportunity to experience unprecedented levels of productivity in database processing, application serving, web and file serving, and a wide range of other applications.

From a design standpoint, the Transport GX21 (B5350) offers everything an integration customer could need. The 21.5” depth enclosure provides a clean aluminum look-and-feel for a rugged appearance and form. Two drive cages provide customers with dual hot-swap Serial ATA support on a hardware backplane, with compatibility for 3.5” drives. Front USB ports give customers access to the system using standard devices with the USB interface, without having to pull the system out of the rack. A 500W server power supply with PFC and a slim CD-ROM, are both included as standard devices with the package. A rear PCI-X 133MHz slot and dual Broadcom-based Gigabit Ethernet ports offer full expansion and network interface capabilities for any number of IT environments.

Features on the system-level include support for DDR333 or 266 type Registered Memory with ECC support, and hardware activity monitoring and control for components such as the fans and VRMs. All of this is backed by a full support and service policy, courtesy of Tyan.

“A number of applications in today’s IT environment see the need for a high amount of system flexibility and core power,” said Don Clegg, VP of Marketing and Strategic Programs at Tyan. “Tyan’s Transport GX21 (B5350) not only offers all of the features and performance of a full-length 1U server, in a form factor that will ensure a higher density of servers per unit of real estate.”

The Transport GX21 (B5350) will be sampling in early November, reaching mass availability in Q1’05.
