Apple Game Center

In related casual gaming news, Apple has said owners of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, plus second, third and fourth gen iPod Touch devices will be able to use its new social gaming network called Game Center.

In fact any models that can benefit from iOS 4.1 due out later this week will be able to play. Obviously the iPhone 3G and original iPhone could not support iOS 4 when it first became available so there is perhaps little surprise they will miss out on Game Center too.

The app, which was announced back in April at Apple's iOS 4 media event, lets gamers play with friends and the wider Apple gaming community as well as download games.

Users will be able to challenge other gamers to a match or play as a team in some cases, look at leader boards and compare achievements with friends. There will also be an auto-match function for multiplayer games or users can choose to invite friends and let auto-match fill out the number of players needed for a game.
