Bitter Orange

Orange's PR people aren't going to be too happy with researcher YouGov today, after it published a study that essentially said UK iPhone users like Orange the least of all mobile operators.

The rather cheesily entitled iPhone iTrack study found that 15 percent of iPhone owners who use Orange are planning to move to a different network. Additionally, on ten of the survey's 14 satisfaction criteria, which covered both voice and data, Orange came last.

The things that bothered iPhone users about Orange the most appeared to be to do with the network itself. Here are the top five reasons why those considering switching operators from Orange gave for their decision:

  • 60% believe that they could get better network coverage elsewhere
  • 58% say that they are disappointed with Orange's network
  • 46% say that they can get a better connection elsewhere
  • 39% say they can get a more reliable service elsewhere
  • 29% say Orange is expensive

Many of these issues will be at the core of the reason Orange decided to merge its UK operations with T-Mobile to form the ambitiously-named Everything Everywhere. The YouGov release remarks that T-Mobile didn't fare much better - with the lowest overall recommendation rating - but that doesn't mean the combined operation won't deliver.

The network with the lowest proportion of iPhone users looking to switch was Three. Vodafone was second and was also the one people leaving another operator were most likely to defect to.

you got an “i” in the front of your spelling of phone.

everyone hates orange.
Well… it's to be expected, Apples and Oranges and all that ;)

Orange used to be awesome back in the day when they did the everyday 50 tarriff which I was on for over 3 years. However, their signal and quality went downhill quickly since that time and now I've been around the houses trying to get a good signal provider, with ample minutes and texts for a good price and i'm mightly impressed with virgin so far even after they decided to charge me for web access even though I've got a 1 Gb dataplan on my account.

It must be down to all the students on the network all after their Orange Wednesday free codes to fill the cinemas up mid-week :)
I must be the exception because out of all the networks Orange is the one I`ve had the best experiences with.

My missus has an Iphone on orange now and she`s happy

Agreed. My first phone was on Orange everyday 50.

I left Orange a year or so back because I moved house, and could not get a reliable signal any more, but I had been dissatisfied for some time. Their data charges are a lot higher than other networks, and the inclusive amount of data with their standard tariffs is laughably small. No wonder iPhone users are unhappy, as they especially will be transferring lots of data, and will probably get hit with over use charges a lot of the time.

Orange Wednesdays is worth while. I keep a spare PAYG phone on Orange just for that purpose. It gets a £10 top up twice a year, and I make the occasional call on it so Orange don't disconnect it, but other than that it never gets used.
I've been with Orange for 11 years with the same number. I've always been on PAYG. When I joined it was 5p / text message, now its 12p.
During the course of time I used to get 5 free text messages a day, this perk has now been dropped.
I was about to drop Orange when I got a company phone, now I have Orange and Vodafone, where one doesn't work the other does. But more often than not, its Orange that doesnt work.

Now I have a company phone, I only spend about £30 / year on Orange. I keep it because I have had the same number for 11 years and cant be bothered to go through the process of changing supplier.

There is one thing I do like about Orange, in 11 years they have never called me, sent a letter, or sent text advertisements :-).
Vodafone constantly call me and send junk to my work phone. If im in a good mood I'll answer it and waste the time of the operator for a cheap laugh. One day they will learn.
