Greater desire
The battle of the exclusives continues, and this time it's T-Mobile's turn to attempt to steal Vodafone's thunder.
HTC launched the Desire at this year's Mobile World Congress. It is very similar to the Google Nexus one - which HTC manufactures - but has HTC's own ‘Sense' user interface. Vodafone has already announced it will be stocking the Desire in April, but it looks like you can buy it on the T-Mobile site today.
The going rate is £35 per month for two years to get it ‘free'. A HEXUS.community member recently flagged up a T-Mobile forum post that confirmed the Desire would be available from 26 March, but it looks like even that date has been pushed forward. We had heard that Orange was also going to stock the Desire, but there's no sign of it on the site yet.
As ever, if you're willing to shell out a bit up-front you can get a cheaper monthly tariff, but the minimum length is 18 months. With the rate of development of smartphones these days, most of them are going to feel pretty obsolete in a couple of years time. We wonder if phone operators are making a mistake by asking for such lengthy commitment to a handset.
