PRESS RELEASE

Freeview Play, the UK’s fastest growing TV platform, is now available on all SharpAndroid TVs in the UK, with the update rolling out across all devices.

The update means Sharp’s Android TVs will now give viewers access to over 85 live Freeview channels as well as over 20,000 hours of on demand content from the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK and Horror Bites.

Sharp launched its first Aquos Android TVs in Europe last year at IFA with the affordable ‘BL’ series and in first half of 2020 will introduce their ‘BN’ series.

The higher spec ‘BN’ series will feature both Dolby Atmos, which precisely places and moves sound in three-dimensional space, and Dolby Vision HDR, a cinema-inspired technology that provides even more vivid images with intensive colouring and high contrast.

The Japanese brand also intends to release two more Android TV series in the second half of 2020.

“We are delighted with the collaboration between Digital UK, Google and ourselves, it means all current and future customers of Sharp Android TV products will be able to enjoy all the benefits of Freeview Play,” said Kai Thielen, Sharp Marketing Director Europe. “The UK market is one of the most important for Sharp in Europe, and the introduction of Freeview Play on our Android TV platform represents a strategic move in the UK region to attract new customers and reward existing customers.”

Simon Hunt, Director of Strategy and Business Development at Digital UK, the operators of the Freeview Play platform commented “We are thrilled that Freeview Play will be part of Sharp’s great value and highly popular Android range. Freeview Play content is so important to British viewers, and this launch helps us ensure that the latest innovations are available to even more viewers.”
