Amsterdam, January 6th, 2014 - TP Vision plans to launch its first Philips TVs powered by Android. Android will enrich the Smart TV experience and provide a more fluent, faster TV and gaming performance on these top-of-the-range Philips TVs. The first Philips TVs featuring Android will be available from the second quarter 2014 in Europe and Russia as first defined markets.

Fluent user experience and improved app offering

Android is the most prevalent operating system in the mobile smart device market today. TP Vision is making the next leap in delivering extremely powerful, state-of-the-art, innovative TVs by combining Android's strengths with the capabilities of a large TV screen and the existing Smart TV offering. Fast response times, efficient use of resources, smart interoperability and focus on apps and content will strengthen the TV's role as an entertainment hub in the living room.

The best of two worlds: Philips Smart TV apps and Google Play Store

Philips TVs featuring Android will further expand the already large app offering on the Philips Smart TV portal. They will combine access to the outstanding selection of Android apps available in Google Play Store with the existing Smart TV apps including video on demand, catch-up TV, Electronic Program Guide EPG, and music streaming.

Philips TVs become powerful gaming terminals

The highly responsive Android operating system together with the new powerful quad-core chip will transform Philips TVs into awesome, large-screen gaming devices supporting the broad selection of games available in Google Play.

Smooth interconnection with smart devices

By embracing Android, Philips TVs will move closer to smartphones and tablets running on Android, while maintaining hassle-free connectivity with devices supporting Apple iOS for seamless content sharing.
